Entries are open for the Langebaan Country Estate Half-marathon, which takes place on Saturday 22 October.
Organised by the Langebaan Athletics Club, this Boland official race will consist of a 5 km, 10 km and 21,1 km (half marathon), and is run according to Athletic South Africa (ASA) and Boland Athletics rules.
Medals for all events, lucky draws and prize money of R30 000 are up for grabs. The school with the most entries will receive R2 000 and a trophy for their school.
Chairman of LAC Christopher Rodgers says this race will be the second for its young, disciplined club in the community of Langebaan and expect to attract around 1 000 participants.
“This race comes with huge financial expenses,” he said, “and we need urgent support from our West Coast community to help cover the expenses and to make the race materialise. Let’s take the motto ‘Support Locally’, which literally promotes sports tourism on the West Coast and make a contribution, however small it may seem.”
Businesses can make a contribution by sponsoring one of the following:. Medals (5 km/10 km/21 km); trophies. Watersachets/Coke/cups. A water point on the route. Printwork of entry forms/posters/flyers. Mobile toilets/yellow bins. Clothing for marshalls . Vouchers (accommodation/game drives, bed and breakfast, dinner, hampers, and so on).
