Jacobus van Litzenburgh (WCDM Safety Coordinator), Virgil Bester (Chief: Law Enforcement and Security, SBM), Gordon Swarts (Head: Traffic Services), Mario Jacobs (Manager: Public Safety SBM), Alderman Boffie Strydom (Executive Mayor WCDM), Wilhelm Markus (Director Community Services and Administration WCDM) and Cllr Kallie Louw (Speaker WCDM) at the event.

A meeting involving various law-enforcement entities to clarify roles and responsibilities recently took place at West Coast District Municipality’s Disaster Management Centre in Moorreesburg.

It was attended by councillors responsible for safety at local municipalities, senior municipal management, Municipal Law Enforcement officers, Municipal Traffic, police, neighbourhood watches, farm watches and security officers.

The objective was to discuss the roles and responsibilities of the agencies, to improve collaboration among them and enhance community safety in the region.

Alderman Boffie Strydom, Executive Mayor of West Coast District Municipality, held a ceremonial handover of a pocket manual to Municipal Law Enforcement officers, Municipal Traffic, police and various other law-enforcement agencies.

The pocket manual, developed by the municipality’s Disaster Management and Community Safety Unit, will enable law enforcement officers to render a more effective and efficient service to communities.

“I want to thank everybody involved in compiling the booklet for their valuable contribution and for the overall success of the project,” said Strydom.

West Coast District Municipality recently approved a Community Safety Plan and the municipality aims to play a central role in coordinating safety in the West Coast district.
