Nobuntu Makeleni (40) of Mak Heat Logistics behind the wheel of her new vehicle.

Being an entrepreneur is often a lonely journey, but with help and assistance entrepreneurs such as Nobuntu Makeleni can continue their economic dreams.

The 40-year-old from Vredenburg is the owner of Mak Heat Logistics, which for two years has offered local transportation services. “There are advantages and disadvantages to running one’s own business,” she told Weslander, “but now with the new bus I can grow and expand my business.”

Until Tuesday the company had only one Quantum taxi. But now, thanks to a donation from Glenryck SA, Makeleni now has a second vehicle.

Makeleni contacted Snyer Business Consulting last year for assistance in obtaining a second vehicle. Thanks to an existing relationship with the local fish factory and a belief in Makeleni and her business, the Snyer team helped make her dream come true.

“I come from a home of entrepreneurs,” Makaleni pointed out. “My mother had a spaza, and I also knew I wanted to start my own business. Before registering it in November 2020 I worked in the fish industry as a marine-resource monitor. It was important to do research on every aspect of my transport dream.

“Starting Mak Heat Logistic was a risk, but a calculated one, and I knew that ultimately it would be worthwhile because I knew the market. Now we transport learners and staff, and shuttle people who need to get to and from social and other events.”

The arrival of the Glenryck-sponsored vehicle is a game changer. Now Makeleni’s plans to expand within the tourism sector is possible.

“My bus didn’t have air conditioning and transporting groups for long distances without aircon is uncomfortable. The new vehicle Glenryck entrusted to us is more than just steel and rubber; it’s a catalyst for progress. It expands our capacity, elevates our service quality, and sets us apart from the competition.

“It allows us to say ‘yes’ to more opportunities, ensuring we stay true to our mission of exceeding customer expectations.”

The mother of four explains she is humbled by Glenryck’s belief in her business and pledges to uphold their reputation “with the utmost respect”.

Henk Hunter, operations manager at the local factory, said it is wonderful see a woman stepping into a male dominated field. “We were impressed with her tenacity and her self confidence in reaching out for our assistance,” Hunter explained.

“Because the taxi is Glenryck branded, and we helped her get a new vehicle we see it as a win-win for us.”

According to Snyer Business Consulting founder Edwena Snyer, the support from Glenryck is a true testament to its commitment to helping local small businesses.

Besides procuring the vehicle for Mak Heat Logistics from Mortimer Toyota Weskus, Snyer said her company was committed to supporting Makeleni’s and other businesses across the West Coast.

She added it was wonderful to see so many local businesses involved in the procurement of the van as all aspects, from the graphic design to the branding of the vehicle, was done by locals.
