The Malgas Lions Club has a new president for the year 2022-’23. Dawn Poole was inaugurated as its new president on Friday 8 July in Saldanha.
Before becoming president Poole served on the Malgas Lions Club committee as first vice-president, and has now become the third woman in eight years to be chosen president.
She says it is a huge honour to have been chosen, and she is ready to take on her new role and serve her community with pride.
Over the years the Malgas Lions has taken on many community projects and outreaches in the West Coast, a legacy Poole is proud of and which she aims to keep going.
“Kindness matters, and if we as a Lions Club can assist where there is a need, then we are winning,” she said. “We also need members who share our passion to join us.”
Being part of this international organisation, Poole says, allows one to grow and learn. “Confidence, public speaking skills, planning, budgeting and building friendships, both locally and internationally, are among the positives one gains as a Lion,” she said.
Poole says in her new role she would like to establish a branch club in at least one town on the West Coast. She would also like to be more involved with the seniors through game afternoons and assist the youth, among other projects.
