After a three-year covid-induced hiatus, organisers and sponsors SPAR are thrilled to announce that the Women’s Challenge series will once again be held live.

The event will take place in Cape Town on Sunday 23 April.

The city’s women will be able to share South Africa’s “most beautiful” race with fellow entrants in Green Point and surrounds. Women will line up in their thousands at the start, which is close to the Cape Town stadium, for the 10 km run or walk, or the 5 km fun run. The live race will also have a virtual component, which entrants can run, jog or walk the distance of their choice, at their own pace.

“We are so happy that we can host this event live again at our favourite venue here in our beautiful Mother City,” says Elsabe van Zyl-Felix, Advertising Manager for SPAR Western Cape and Namibia.

“We however respect that our customers in far flung areas cannot always make it to Cape Town and also, there are people who are still not fully committed to taking part in activities which involve large numbers. Whether you enter to take part in Green Point, or somewhere virtually, focus on the fun.”

The theme for this year’s SPAR Women’s Virtual Challenge is #ItsPersonal, with the underlying message of coming together, running together and supporting each other, however you choose.

Entries are open online at www.sparwomensrace.co.za

It costs R150 to enter. This includes an entry pack with the very collectable SPAR T-shirt, a peak, medal, magazine and goodies – all packaged in an attractive re-useable bag. Numbers have been capped at 14 000, so participants are encouraged to get their entries in soon so as not to miss out.

The SPAR Women’s Challenge has always had a charitable aspect. SPAR takes pride in living out their values of family, passion and entrepreneurship and feels strongly that each girl has the right to an education. For every entry received, SPAR will donate a pack of sanitary pads, which will be distributed via the Petals Project in partnership with various charities across the country.

This year they will also be donating to Operation Smile SA. By participating all entrants are helping to change the lives of children born with cleft lips and palates, who don’t have easy access to treatment.

The SPAR Women’s 10 km Challenge and Grand Prix series, one of the largest women’s road running series in the world, is held in Cape Town, as well as Gqeberha, Durban, Maritzburg, Mbombela, Tshwane and Johannesburg.
