The West Coast police have received more information about the human remains found in February this year on a farm near the Vredenburg and Velddrif road.
Farmer Fanie Tredoux and a team of his workers found the remains on the Bessieheuwel Farm on Thursday 1 February while busy with routine fence mending.
According to Capt Tania Helfrich, spokesperson for the West Coast police, the autopsy report indicates the deceased male probably had African ancestry. He was 1.7 m tall and between 35 and 40 years old.
At the time of his death he was wearing black size 28 Truworths trousers, black flip-flops, a green T-shirt with white and blue stripes and a black BOSS jacket.
The police do not suspect foul play, as the post-mortem examination shows no perimortem (at or near the time of death) injuries to the bones, such as unhealed fractures, bullet holes or cuts.
Helfrich said the coroner found the probable cause of death was hanging as a broken piece of rope was found with the body.
“Because the deceased had already been dead three to five months before his body was found it is difficult to establish precisely the cause of death,” she said.
There are no local missing-person reports that contain a description of the deceased.
Anyone with more information about the deceased is requested to contact Const Zikhona Nyito on 022 703 6464.
