Learners and staff of Middelpos Primary school can finally look forward to having their very own building.
Mzwandile Sixholo, the principal, says the school has about 924 learners and a new school building is welcomed.
Millicent Merton, spokesperson for the Western Cape Education Department, says the anticipated date of school occupancy is in June 2023.
Merton says the importance of a new school building comes as there has been an increase in learner numbers and due to the growing demand for accommodation, the WCED started a mobile school in 2016 on a portion of land in Middelpos.
“The school started with 301 learners in 2017 and over the last 4 years, the learner numbers increased.” Merton adds the new school building that was planned since 2018, will accommodate 1 800 learners and is one of the largest school buildings in the Western Cape.”
Sixholo says he is looking forward to this new school as it will allow learners to have more facilities such as computer classes among others.
