Executive Mayor, Councillor André Truter, officiated at the re-opening of the upgraded vehicle testing station in Langebaan on Friday 18 March.

He was joined by guests who partook in the historic moment for the Saldanha Bay Municipality.

They included some members of the Mayoral Committee (MMC), including councillors Michael Schaffers, Jaco Kotzé and Wilhelm America as well as Municipal Manager Heinrich Mettler.

Also the Department of Transport and Public Works’ Assistant Director of Compliance Monitoring Unit, Charlton Majiedt, and Saldanha Bay Municipality’s Director of Corporate Services and Public Safety, Phumzile Mbaliswana.

In his keynote address Truter alluded to the municipality’s “community first approach”, which in essence endeavours to bring services closer to residents and all other municipal customers.

Mbaliswana told guests the re-opening of the testing station was part of a decentralising strategy, and the team was celebrating an achievement of many months’ hard work and planning.

The facility is a Grade B vehicle testing station and is authorised to examine and test a motor vehicle of any class, excluding a bus, minibus or vehicle exceeding 3 500 kg.

Operational hours are Mondays to Fridays from 08:00 to 13:00.

Pricing for roadworthiness is as follows:. Goods Vehicle: R165 . Light motor vehicles and trailers: R135 . Motorcycles: R55 . Issuing of a roadworthy certificate for tested motor vehicles: R33.
