With just a few weeks to go before the 2022 National Senior Certificate (NSC) exams, matriculants all over the country are busy preparing.
According to Bronagh Hammond, spokesperson for the Western Cape Education Department (WCED), districts have been hard at work during the third term offering after-school and weekend revision classes in key subjects, providing exam support packs to candidates, holding online tutoring sessions, hosting residential camps and motivating learners.
She said every matric candidate in the province had received a matric revision pack this term.
“The pack contains past papers and memos in high-enrolment subjects, study tips, post-matric advice, and the pass requirements for the NSC. Our ePortal contains nearly 9 000 matric-specific support resources, which learners can access whenever they like. This includes revision guides, Telematics videos, marking guides, study tips and a variety of others.”
Gresche Davids, a Grade 12 learner at Weston High School, Vredenburg told Weslander she feels very nervous and stressed about the upcoming exams, but added it is normal to feel stressed and anxious “due to the pressure of writing the final exam.” She said she is, however, not going to allow stress to get in her way of doing her utmost to reap good results. “This exam is important to me and will determine my future. I would not say I am 100% ready, but I am definitely ready for the exams.”
Boipelo Mance, a learner from Vredenburg High School, also shared with Weslander that the nerves were getting to her, as this was the chance she got to lay the foundation in her life for her future. She is, however, confident in her preparation after all the hard work of teachers throughout the year.
Boipelo is hard at work summarising, learning, eating healthier and getting enough sleep.
The Western Cape Minister of Education, David Maynier, wished matriculants all the best. “We know they have the ability to achieve excellent results this year,” he added.
