The South African School’s Choral Eisteddfod (SASCE) was held on Monday 16 May at the West Coast Special School in Saldanha.

Schools from various West Coast districts participated in it. All first prizewinners are through to the provincial round, which will take place from Thursday 26 to Saturday 28 May at the Artscape Theatre.

Masiphatisane Primary School took first place in two categories, for which the school is very proud. Principal René Joorst was grateful to Cape Town Opera for assisting the school by providing professional conductors to prepare its choir and ensuring its members didn’t practise on empty stomachs. She was also grateful to the dedicated teachers on the music committee.

It’s also a first for this event to be hosted at the theatre. For those wishing to attend tickets are R80 and available from Computicket. Winners in the provincial round will go through to the nationals. The results:
