On Wednesday evening (29 March), a Malawian man coming home from prayers at the mosque was shot dead in his car.
Omar Rasheed (35), a driver at a local company, was found in his vehicle around 23:05 at the corner of Platina and Olivien Streets in the George Kerridge residential area. According to Captain Tania Helfrich, a West Coast Police District spokesperson, he was already dead when he was found.
His sister, Sinalo Funani, told Weslander that Rasheed was a harmless soul, good to everyone he encountered. “A very good person.”
Helfrich said eyewitnesses are yet to come forward, and the reason for the murder is still unknown.
Rasheed leaves behind his wife, Fatima (32), and two daughters, Nazira (2) and Fazira (8).
The matter is under investigation, and anyone with more information is called upon to contact Sergeant Masibulele Matiwane at 022 703 6464.
