Excitement reigned as the matric class of 2025 received the results of their National Senior Certificate (NSC) on Monday 13 January.
The 2025 matric year marks one in history as the Western Cape Class of 2025 delivered the highest matric and bachelor’s pass rate ever for the province. The pass rate increased from last year’s record-breaking 86,6% to 88,2%.
In the West Coast, a pass rate of 87,35% was achieved compared to the pass rate of 84,19% for the class of 2024.
Many schools in the West Coast have seen an improvement in their results.
In the Vredenburg circuit, the New Vredenburg High School is particularly proud of its 98% pass rate compared to the 96,9% achieved the previous year.
According to Nomvula Dingaan, principal, she is extremely proud of all the matriculants. “We are excited about the results and proud of the 98% achievement and the 38 bachelor passes achieved.”
She contributes this to the teamwork from Grade 8 to Grade 12 educators who assited with extra classes.
Loyiso Blekiwe, the top learner at New Vredenburg, said he is extremely happy and did not expect these kinds of results. “Throughout my journey I was able to make it with the support of my family and my teachers. I would like to further my studies,” he added.
Another school that saw a boost is Diazville High School, which achieved 91,4% compared to 86,4% in 2024. Principal Paul Haricombe is particularly proud of the excellent results and the breakthrough of the 90% margin. “We also have two candidates who passed with A averages, the first in the history of the school. We also had the most candidates passing, consisting of 233 passes in the school’s existence.”
He congratulated the class of 2025 and commended their perseverance, hard work, dedication and discipline.
Weston High School also saw an increase in their results, jumping from 64,6% in 2023 to 75,7% in 2024 and now standing at 78,9% for 2025.
Top learner Klara Lyons said she did not expect the results she obtained, but is very proud of what she has achieved. She would like to further her studies and endeavour into criminal law or, as her second option, drama and theatre.
Hopefield High School once again obtained a 100% pass rate. Jacques Rossouw, principal of the school said he is very proud of the result. “Thank you to every parent, teacher and learner for your hard work, sacrifice and perseverance. This achievement belongs to everyone, it shows what is possible when we stand together and support each other.
Class of 2025, you are an example of what is possible with dedication and perseverance. Class of 2026, look at them and know you can do it too.”
David Maynier, Western Cape Minister of Education, also congratulated the class of 2025.
“You have been one of our hardest-working matric classes to date, and you can rightly celebrate your achievements. Your dedication to your studies has set a wonderful example for future classes of matrics.
“Thank you to our matric teachers who have done an outstanding job supporting our candidates last year, To the Class of 2026: the baton now passes to you, and we urge you to dedicate yourself to your studies in the way that your predecessors have.
