It was an evening where athletes were honoured and which they’ll never forget. The annual Langebaan Athletics Club (LAC) awards ceremony took place om Friday 25 November at the Seebries Hall in Langebaan.
The glamorous event, attended by various guests and athletes of the club, were awarded for all the hard work and dedication put in throughout the year.
According to Christopher Rodgers, chairman of the LAC, the event is a highlight on its calendar.
He said he was very proud of each of his athletes and believes the awards motivate them all and encourage others to join the LAC as well.
The awards’ categories were Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year, Volunteer of the Year, Male Athlete of the Year, among many others. Senior Sportswoman of the Year Natasha Jantjies shared with Weslander that winning the award came as a huge surprise. “It felt great, but all thanks go to the Lord,” she said.
Elrich Jantjies, who won the Sub- Junior Sportsman of Year and walked away with the Executive Deputy Mayor Charmaine Laubcher Trophy, believes he won through training hard and faithfully, and having the goals always to give his best.
Chosen as Master Woman Athlete of the Year was Anita Davids. She said: “First of all, I am very proud of myself for still being able to participate in athletics at my age, given I am 50 years old.
“A thank you also goes to our heavenly Father, who gives me the strength to exercise, and for my health.”
All the athletes were thankful for their support systems, coach, family, friends and everyone who had been with them throughout their special journey.
Rodgers said the LAC was looking forward to what next year has in store for it, including the next awards.
