Mfesane West Coast, in collaboration with Jazzart Theatre, ran a holiday programme from Tuesday 29 March to Saturday 2 April.
The focus of the programme was on dance, especially contemporary dance. Amanda Mhlawuli, its coordinator, explained its purpose was to keep children busy during the school holidays with constructive and uplifting activities.
“Jazzart Theatre brought this initiative to us as part of its community outreach,” she pointed out. “The children dance the whole week and present what they have learnt to their parents at the end of the week.”
A number of children from Middlepos, Hopefield and Laingville took part.
Mhlawuli said the programme was first run in 2021, during the September holidays, and was a huge success.
“Since then, the children looked forward to this year’s holiday programme and were very excited about taking part in it.”
She added the children also learnt they can make a living out of dancing. “We are also teaching the children such important life skills as discipline, teamwork, good communication and more.”
Mfesane would like to thank Saldanha Bay Municipality and SA Cargo for their donations as well as everyone else who participated this year.
