His striking street photography has captured the eyes of many. Ikaelelo Gaosenkwe, better known as Ike, has made a statement with his unique style of photography.
The Vredenburg resident has been doing photography part-time for a few years now. Owning his very first film camera in 2004, Ike took many photos among family and friends.
“It is kind of a long story, but to cut it short, when I got married I hired a photographer and he did such a bad job. I looked at the photos and knew I could have done a better job. So from that day I decided to do the job myself,” said Ike.
Ike does portrait photography, making use of natural light to give an authentic and natural feel when it comes to his subjects.
Ike would like to thank everyone who has commented and shared his work. “I personally like capturing candid moments and street photography is one of the best ways to do that.”
When it comes to his work, Ike said what gives him the greatest joy is being paid for something he would do for free. However, he notes that with regard to street photography not everyone likes having their pictures taken, and he respects that. “But also seeing the reaction on people’s faces when you show them the photos, that gives me joy.”
Ike is currently content and happy with the progress and the pace his photography journey is taking. However he has big dreams of turning this part-time passion into a full-time job.
Where does he see his work in the future? The answer is simple, “billboards,” said Ike. He hopes to achieve this big dream of his very soon.
