A will is a critical legal document that can help you ensure your belongings are distributed according to your wishes after you have passed away.
It is important to have a will drafted by a legal practitioner because they have the necessary expertise to ensure all the legal requirements are met.
Each year a number of attorneys participate in the National Wills Week which, this year, is from 11 to 15 September, and participating law firms and legal practitioners will be drafting wills at no cost. Make sure to have your ID document, a list of what you own – this could be property, clothing items, family heirlooms, funds; and the details of the person(s) you wish to leave these assets to.
National Wills Week seeks to raise awareness among the public of the importance of drafting a will. If you do not yet have a will, or want to update your will, be sure to contact any of the participating law firms.
More information on participating law firms and legal practitioners is available on the Law Society of South Africa’s website: www.lssa.org.za
