In December 2023, the AVBOB 12 team of Subject Advisors sprang into action to revise the Examination Preparation Guides, aligning them with the amended list of prescribed work from the National Department of Basic Education (DBE).
Dr Adriaan Coetser, Subject Adviser in Chief of the AVBOB 12 programme emphasised the necessity of these adjustments, stating, “Nobody wants to study the same poems and short stories for 20 years.” The revised editions of the Examination Preparation Guides replaced the existing guides in June 2024 to assist with exam preparation by Grade 12 teachers and learners.
Adjustments were made to the AVBOB step 12 Examination Preparation Guide for Paper 2’s Section 4 (List of literary terms) and Section 5 (Example questions and model answers) to reflect the new prescribed works in the curriculum. Coetser highlighted that the recent adjustments were digitally made. He noted: “These changes could be done easily and without prohibitive costs as the case would have been with printed material.”
In keeping with continuous engagement and to ensure all educators, parents and learners have information at their fingertips the AVBOB step 12 programme offers Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) on the AVBOB step 12 website. The second series of FAQ videos has been embedded on the website and can be viewed under the ‘Video FAQs’ section.
The videos address key aspects of exam preparation, including time management and question-answering techniques. Teachers are encouraged to send in more questions using the AVBOB step 12 website.
