Likhona Foundation embarked on a sanitary-pad collection drive on Tuesday 1 April.
Its founder, Nosipho Lisa, said the aim is to collect 1 500 packets of sanitary pads, which will be distributed to schools in the area, an initiative she has driven annually.
“Our vision [as a foundation] is to create opportunities to discover and develop the potential among township youth and give them a platform to grow to their full potential.
“We believe this will help give vulnerable young girls and boys essential life skills, self-confidence, leadership opportunities, respect for themselves and their peers, positive and healthy life choices and ultimately a sense of purpose.”
This month’s drive will end with a 5 km run on Saturday 3 May, starting in the Vredenburg Magistrates’ Court parking lot at 07:30.
“We would like to request a donation of pads,” said Lisa, “and we will be grateful also to those who can participate on the walk to bring their donations on the day.”
