The Genesis Hub was honoured to have had a wonderful visit from the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (DTIC), accompanied by Youth Employment Service staff. This took place on Friday 26 May.
The main purpose for DTIC’s visit was to gain more insight on the Genesis hub’s Drone Academy and what it has to offer. The Drone Academy is currently being managed by Omar Dick who is a Managing Director of That Quick.
On the day of the visit, the group were taken on a tour to see all the programmes the Genesis Hub has and the different industries it portrays. The Drone Academy team exhibited the drone industry and it basically explained how this programme can serve a pipeline to transform the Saldanha Bay Municipal area into a Pro-Drone Industry area with all the different sectors it specialises in, such as public safety, mining, farming and maritime activities.
The guests were also exposed to a first hand experience of Virtual Reality and flying drones in a secured space. The Genesis Hub’s Drone Academy has a successful history, where all three groups who have been part of this specific programme have passed with flying colours and are now competent and licensed Commercial Drone Pilots. The youth are now working in public safety, doing maintenance of unmanned aerial vehicles and surveillance in the Western Cape and Mpumalanga.
The group ended the day with lunch prepared by the hub’s own Culinary Academy.
