The Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) at the University of Cape Town (UCT) has been active in the Saldanha Bay Sub-District for several years.

The FHS deputy deans, Assoc Profs Kerrin Begg and Tracey Naledi along with Prof Steve Reid, Assoc Profs Klaus von Pressentin, Niri Naidoo and Jacky Van Wyk were part of the visiting delegation in Vredenburg on Thursday 2 and Friday 3 June.

A consultative session between some members of the FHS leadership and senior members of the Health Department was held at the Vredenburg Provincial Hospital. An engagement with a range of community stakeholders was also held at the Genesis Hub in Louwville. A range of topics were addressed, including strengthening partnerships, expanding service learning in the sub-district, reflecting on Community Based-Education (CBE), exploring social accountability opportunities, and exploring additional collaborative projects. Community stakeholders shared ideas on how UCT can better respond to community needs and priorities.
