The Vredenburg Hopland u-21 team showed who’s boss at the 2024 Exodus u-21 Rugby Champions on Saturday 30 November playing against other u-21 teams from Saldanha Bay, Laaiplek, Langebaan and Laingville.
This is the fourth year that this prestigious tournament has been hosted.
Last year Vredenburg Hopland ended the championships as runners up, but were crowned as champions this year, winning 10-8 against Young Saints Laingville.
The tournament has yielded many talented young rugby players who have gone on to join rugby academies, first teams for rugby clubs and even Boland. Norman van Wyk, community activist and ward-committee member said they still remain humble while they help young men to inspire other youth.
“The message is simple and clear, that there is a life away from gangsterism and drugs, there is a higher calling if young people just believe in their God-given abilities.”
The players made the entire community proud.
