An entrepreneur training week was presented to youth of the West Coast.

Attended by about 20 participants, the training programme took place at the Saldanha Bay Hotel between Monday 26 and Friday 30 June. The training was sponsored by the Department of Fisheries, Forestry and the Environment and facilitated by the Cape West Coast Biosphere for youth in the biosphere.

Sharon February from the Cape West Coast Biosphere explained that the training was an accredited NQF4 training and carries eight credits for each of the participants who successfully completed the training.

“It gave them the tools needed to develop a business plan to start up or improve on their own business venture. It gave them the tools on how to market their products both on social media platforms and the printed media,” said February.

The participants were also asked to prepare a presentation to sell their products to possible investors. They were guided through this process and given constructive advice after every presentation. “This training session allowed them the opportunity to network with their peers and share ideas but also to develop new friendships and a network base that they can tap into that will last a lifetime.”

At the closing of the training week, participants shared more about what they have learned and how they will implement it going forward. They expressed their gratitude and excitement for what the future holds.
