Experts have predicted this flower season will be a spectacular one. Judging from early reports, it seems that anyone heading up the West Coast this year will be blown away by a flower paradise not seen in a while.
Flower season in the West Coast National Park is at its peak from August to September annually.
During these two months visitors to the park will see a wide variety of flowers on display.
Large areas of flowers can be seen in the Seeberg, Mooimaak, and Postberg areas.
Visitors to these areas must remember basic safety measures so that they can remember the outing for all the right reasons.
“If you stop anywhere along the side of the road to get out and view the flowers, please remember not to leave any valuable items in your car where they are in full view of anyone walking past,” says Fidelity ADT’s regional manager, Jade Hanning.
“Make sure your car is locked properly and that the windows are closed.”
Keep in mind there are specific requirements that apply inside the park itself, such as a posted 50 km/h speed limit and a request for people to stay inside their cars.
Several areas are also off-limits to members of the public.
Hanning also recommends keeping emergency contact numbers saved onto your phone, which should include contact details for anyone who can offer roadside assistance in case of a breakdown.
Before setting off on your journey, make sure that you do a quick check to see your car is in good condition and that you have a spare wheel in case you need one.
