Guests were welcomed by the beautiful sounds of the West Coast Youth Orchestra (WCYO) Percussion Ensemble at the launch party of the Lifestyle Centre at Club Mykonos on Friday 3 November.
They played such crowd favourites as “Viva la Vida”, “Waka Waka” and “Stand by Me”. There were also some African sounds, with “Great Heart”, “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” and “Africa”.
The music immediately set the tone for the evening and put everyone in the right mood.
Marna Smit oversees this extraordinary group of musicians and has worked closely with them over the last two years. She is also responsible for the arrangements of the songs they play.
The Percussion Ensemble has grown into an extremely successful group and is fast becoming known all over the West Coast. This is due to the dedication and passion of each member and the leadership of Smit. The WCYO is immensely proud of them.
