Learners from the Drone Academy, based at the Genesis Hub in Louwville, went to Cape Town to complete a “ground course” within the drone industry for two weeks.

Hosted at the Cape Academy of Maths, Science and Technology Senior High School in Constantia, Cape Town, 15 learners attended from Sunday 27 March for two weeks.

They had the opportunity to attend lectures on various topics, such as Human Factors, Air Laws, Principle of flight, Aircraft Technical and General, Meteorology and Navigation theory. In addition, a few other value-adding sector-specific courses were offered, which included survey and mapping, surveillance and technical drone building and maintenance as well as Photography and Film making courses.

This broadens their exposure for the learners to decide which area within the drone industry they would like to focus on for their Quality Work and Experience. By completing the theory in various sectors they now understand the air laws are set out to promote safe flying and to respect the obstacles in our natural environment, such as safe practice with various weather conditions.

They also received a surprise visit from rapper and song writer Youngsta CPT, who motivated them and shared his story with them. Since they returned to the Genesis Hub the group could not stop raving about their stay in Cape Town.
