The Curamus Association and Casual Day recently hosted a combined workshop at the Military Academy in Saldanha.
On Thursday 12 May Curamus, an association for persons with disabilities, held the event with the aim to promote awareness for persons with disabilities and to emphasise the importance of their role in especially the Defence Communities.
Casual Day is held on 3 September and hosted by the National Council of and for Persons with Disabilities.
Participants learnt about processes to follow and to encourage members to support Casual Day and its mission. Initiatives by Curamus and Casual Day were also explained and showcased.
The workshop was attended by various role-players from the Department of Defence Disability Committee Members, CEO of Curamus Kobus Swart, Casual Days’ Gabriel Hoffman, Simon Niyarenda and public relations officers of the West Coast Military Units – the 4 Special Forces Regiment Langebaan, Military Academy, Air Force Base Langebaanweg and SAS Saldanha.
Achievements Awards were also handed over for the support to Casual Day initiates.
Air Force Base (AFB) Langebaanweg received the first prize for Super Participation in Casual Day 2021 for Best Performing Department of Defence in the Western Cape, and persons with disabilities and representatives from units also attended.
Lieutenant Eleas Martin Koopman of AFB Langebaanweg also received an awards for Super Participation in Casual Day 2021.
Even with the Covid-19 pandemic, units and members gave unselfish support which encouraged others to set an example to support Curamus and Casual Day activities.
