Clean-Up and Recycle Week in Saldanha Bay Municipality brought the community together in a united effort to keep the environment clean and safe.
Recently groups from St Helena Bay, Laingville and Paternoster worked side by side to remove waste from their surroundings, showing how powerful collaboration can be in protecting the coastline.
The clean-up weekend was a success, with teams gathering impressive amounts of litter and recyclables.
The “United Against Litter” group led by Anne Todd in St Helena Bay, worked diligently, collecting 16 black bags of waste and 13 clear bags of recyclables. In Laingville, Ghouwa Charles and her team from “We Love Laingville” filled an incredible 50 black bags, with all waste loaded into a skip for disposal. Meanwhile in Paternoster, Cindy Saville and the “Paternoster Operative” team collected 14 black bags during their clean-up efforts.
Saldanha Bay Municipality (SBM) played an important role in supporting these groups by removing the waste and providing essential clean-up supplies including gloves and bags for both recyclables and non-recyclables.
Charlotte Nell of Aquila Environmental said the clean-up efforts highlights the community’s commitment to keeping the environment clean and demonstrate the importance of each individual’s role in managing waste responsibly.
“By using SBM’s waste-management system we not only keep our communities clean but also minimise the risk of waste ending up in the ocean. Every piece of waste that is properly sorted and disposed of makes a difference, reminding us that we are all responsible for the waste we generate,” said Nell.
She thanks everyone who participated and made Clean-Up and Recycle Week a success.
