Councillor Sibusiso Gqeba and Simnikiwe Mbalo (SACP) gathering the donations.

Local councillors of the Saldanha Bay Municipality recently reached out to a boy with special needs in George Kerridge, Vredenburg.

Councillors of Ward 9 Sibusiso Gqeba (Ongegund), Theresa Rossouw and Simnikiwe Mbalo of the South African Communist Party (SACP) as well as community leaders who are part of the South African National Civic Organisation (Sanco) helped the 9-year-old, who has cerebral palsy, gather donations such as a much-needed wheelchair, bed, bedding and nappies.

Clothing and groceries were also donated to him and his family.

They were also assisted with the renting of a flat as the family was homeless and destitute.

“A house will be built for the family as well,” Rossouw indicated. “This is how we care for the community. It’s about putting people first.”
