Tourism professionals who bring together generous, joyful hearts with expertise and the belief of doing business with friends is one way to describe the members of the West Coast chapter of Skål International.
This is the world’s largest and oldest tourism networking organisation encompassing all aspects of tourism.
Skål International, with its headquarters in Torremolinos, Spain, has approximately 12,500 members across 294 clubs in 75 countries.
The West Coast branch was established in 2022, with Shirley Brown serving as its president. The current president is Joy Strydom, and membership has since grown to nearly 30.
At the organisation’s year-end charity lunch at the Langebaan Country Estate restaurant on Thursday 27 November, members presented an array of items to the For Our Children charity. Every year, the club chooses a worthwhile cause to support. This year it was the charity Longacres, which provides a home to children.
Strydom said the luncheon brought members and partners together for an afternoon of generosity and a spirit of community support.
Skål may have at its heart the coastal town of Langebaan, but it has attracted Skålleagues from the entire West Coast tourism region. Any tourism professional is welcome to join and experience the valuable networking possibilities membership presents.
Strydom expressed deep gratitude to all who contributed to the success of the day and the ongoing support of its charitable initiatives.
“Your generosity was so appreciated and has reinforced my belief that there are angels on earth,” she said.
