World Bicycle Day will be celebrated by the Pedal Power Association and local riders on Friday 3 June.

The association will be in Velddrif hosting a safe cycling awareness ride to share the uniqueness, versatility and longevity of the bicycle as a simple, sustainable, economical and reliable mode of transport as well as a means of staying healthy.

Mayor of Bergrivier Ray van Rooy and Western Cape Premier Alan Winde will also be on hand at the event.

Locals are free to join in the awareness ride, which starts at 08:00 from the Noordhoek Public Library in Velddrif. It is a short 12 km ride followed by coffee afterwards at the Riviera Hotel.

With so many road users jostling for space on the road, the Pedal Power Association’s Stay Wider of the Rider safe cycling campaign has become instrumental in creating national awareness to share the roads throughout South Africa.
