Porterville Olives won three gold accolades at the New York International Olive Oil Competition (NYIOCC).
Their Andante Intenso, Andante Forte and Andante Mezzo each won gold.
Willie Duminy, owner of Wêreldsgeluk Olywe and principal shareholder and director of Porterville Olives said they are extremely happy, grateful, and humbled by the generosity of nature and the olive. “They make the oil and we extract and protect it. The hard work, perseverance and attention to detail of our farming, harvesting and milling teams, the quality of our trees and the gifts of abundant sunshine and a healthy climate are reflected in the character of the oil,” he said.
This is not a first win for Porterville Olives as they have won many awards at the NYIOOC before and in other competitions. Duminy added that their Andante Intenso, a mono-varietal Nocellara del Belice, has won medals at NYIOOC each year since 2016, three silver and four gold. “Andante Mezzo our medium blend of Frantoio, Leccino Coratina and Mission has also won silver and gold in the past. This was the first gold at NYIOOC for our Andante Forte which is a strongly flavoured oil of the FS 17 cultivar. Before 2016, Andante Intenso took more than one gold award and Best of Class at the Los Angeles International Olive Oil Competition.
What makes Poterville Olives’ olive oil so unique? “Unlike other oils, it occurs naturally in the fruit. We try to reveal the gift contained in the abundance of the fruit, by striving to combine the best environmentally sensitive and responsible farming methods with the latest harvesting and milling machinery.”
The milling team led by Jan Hendrik Basson, grew up in Porterville and on the land. Along with his team they work long, hard hours to perfect the craft of Andante olive oil.
Duminy said they certainly hope that the Andante brand will continue to win accolades participate in the NYIOOC.
