Air Force Base (AFB) Langebaanweg together with Yukon Spur at Weskus Mall selflessly dedicated its 67 minutes for Mandela Day at Holvlei Primary School in Hopefield.
The theme for this year’s Mandela Day was “Do what you can, with what you have, where you are” and AFB Langebaanweg ensures they play their part every year on this special day.
They rendered aid based on the requests of the school, which was installing electricity in one of the school containers and installing the schools new double doors. They also connected the sewage pipes in the toilets of the Grade R learners and removed garbage material to the Hopefield dump site.
As part of its 67 minutes, Yukon Spur had a fun-filled programme for the learners, where faces were painted and games played. The learners also received parcels from Spur.
Chaplain Mandla Mtila from AFB Langebaanweg said Mandela loved children and seeing this moment would have made him so happy. General Mac Matanda reiterated to the learners that success has no boundaries and each one of them stand a chance to become president as Nelson Mandela himself came from a place not so different from Hopefield.
Lastly Christopher Witbooi, principal of Holvlei Primary School, expressed gratitude to the AFB Langebaanweg for their continuous support.
