Masizole Mnqasela, Speaker of the Western Cape Provincial Legislature, in collaboration with Youth4Life SA and Samaritan’s Feet SA, continued his Shoes of Hope programme by distributing school shoes to learners in need.

He visited Diazville Primary School in Saldanha and EJ Malgarte Primary School in St Helena Bay on Tuesday 1 June to distribute the shoes.

This initiative will see 200 pairs of shoes distributed to most needy learners at two schools in this area. The Shoes of Hope initiative is about more than just providing shoes to those who need them most. The aim is to connect with the children and give them hope.

The Speaker believes that for any country to succeed it needs to prioritise education of its population through empowering programmes, in this way making education fashionable.

Since the start of the collaboration with Youth4Life SA and Samaritan’s Feet SA, Mnqasela has already participated in the distribution of thousands of pairs of school shoes to children at crèches, primary and high schools across the province. The impact of the Covid-19 pandemic has been tough on the whole of society, but particularly on poorer communities. The loss of income experienced by many has resulted in such things as school shoes simply not being affordable. Through this project needy learners are assisted with these basic requirements.

Mnqasela will continue the distribution of school shoes to needy learners during June.
