Teachers and staff from circuit 3 received their vaccinations.

The vaccination of the education sector in Saldanha was a huge success, according to Avril Daniels, Western Cape Education Circuit Manager in Vredenburg.

Employees at schools in the Saldanha area, or circuit 3, were vaccinated from Tuesday 6 to Wednesday 8 July at Vredenburg Hospital.

“The Department of Health and the Western Cape Education Department worked together to vaccinate 672 employees of the total of 757,” Daniels said. “Altogether 88,7% of the sector has received the Johnson & Johnson jab.”

This high percentage of employees were vaccinated despite the unexpected change in the school holidays.

Around 85 employees couldn’t get the jab for different reasons.

Daniels wants to thank everyone who helped to get employees in the education sector vaccinated.

“We want to thank in particular Sr Hildegard Van Rhyn and her team for the sterling work done. We could manage to vaccinate an average of 224 people a day at the site.”

He adds that they want to acknowledge the good cooperation of the employees of schools and in particular the principals who supervised the punctual attendance of teachers and staff.
