After serving for two years as Langebaan Animal Care’s (LAC) chair Izelle Marallich will move on to a new chapter in her life.
Her role as chair will come to an end at the end of March, as she will be taking on a new venture in Wilderness.
Marallich joined LAC in 2018 and took the reins as chair in 2019. Having a love and passion for animals has come a long way for her. “It was always my dream as a child to have a big farm and rescue animals,” she said.
On joining LAC Marallich said for the first time it felt as if she was part of an organisation that validates the efforts volunteers put in to make a difference, by being hands-on in getting things done to help animals.
“I had an amazing team and together we have turned the small unknown welfare into a leading animal welfare on the West Coast.
“We had our challenges the last three years and a lot of ups and downs. Covid-19 – well, what more can we say? It was something no one was prepared for.”
During her three years Marallich is proud of what LAC has achieved despite its challenges. She cites as one of her most memorable moments the opening of the new West Coast Animal Sanctuary in Langebaan in January by Executive Mayor André Truter.
Marallich adds she will surely miss all the animals as she had created a firm bond with them over the years.
“I know their names, their stories, helped rehabilitate them and more,” she said.
She encourages everyone to either become a volunteer, adopt or foster an animal or donate to the LAC shop.
“The list is endless of how you can help make a difference in an animal’s life.”
