On Saturday (9 April) three of Langebaan Strandlopers members participated in various WP Masters events in Parow, Cape Town.

Master walker Douglas Hektor completed 5 km in 33 minutes winning the 60-64 Category age group.

Raydon Benjamine ran the 100 m in 11:22 sec and 200 m in 23:66 in the category 30-35.

Clive Cupido (50-59) broke his own Boland 800 m record in 2 seconds. His aim was to run a sub 2:18 to qualify for South African National colours. Cupido’s winning time were 2:19:12 missing SA colours with 1:13 seconds.

He also won the 400 m event in a time of 1:01:22. Cupido is also the holder of the 1 500 m, 5 000 m speed walk and pole vault Boland record.

He believes staying away from processed sugars and food is what keeps him on the edge.

Practice sessions with juniors as a coach and athlete ensures he is performing at his best continuously. He won the West Coast Coach of the Year in 2019 and Senior Sportsman of the year 2018 and 2021.
