In 2021 Marsh, an insurance company, partnered with Louwville High School in Vredenburg as part of its corporate social investment (CSI) programme.

In 2021 the company started out with 21 Grade 11 learners, 12 of whom are currently being mentored every second Friday by graduates at Marsh.

“The purpose of this mentoring programme is to give the learners a sense of purpose,” their principal, Emile Petrus, said. “Mentors encourage and engage with learners regularly to provide support.”

This year the group are in Grade 12 and a career day is planned for Saturday 11 June, where Marsh representative Norma Sauls will also present a workshop on the day.

The current Grade 11 learners, who also form part of this initiative (and are known as “the courteous boys”), meet once a week with their coordinator, Louis Hartzenberg, who works with them to ensure a bright future.

The school will start a mentorship programme with Grade 10 learners this year as well. Marsh also sent Petrus, educators Hartzenberg and Chantel McAllister to Durban to attend a John Maxwell Leadership Workshop.

Marsh is trying to empower educators to make a difference at school.

The school said they are privileged to be part of this initiative.
