A small certificate ceremony was held at the West Coast College Vredenburg Campus’ Centre for Entrepreneurship Rapid Incubator (CFEIR) to celebrate the first group of five young women who completed their Coding and Business Training and Coaching as part of the Digital Entrepreneurship Programme.
The Digital Entrepreneurship Programme (Dep) is one of the key programmes introduced in 2021 to equip youth with entrepreneurship and scarce ICT skills, which the college believes will be providing innovative solutions that will result in the creation of jobs and the growth of the local economy in the ICT sector. The participants were trained in coding languages such as Python, Jango and HTML.
“This represents a significant milestone in the empowerment of the youth to develop businesses that offer ICT-related solutions,” said Xolani Mhlongo, CFERI Manager.
Two business opportunities have been identified where the Coding skills will be applied. These include: . Printing and IT support;. An online marketplace for small restaurants in the West Coast District.
“The CFERI will be providing further business development services to these business start-ups as well as more support to assist in the growth and success of the businesses,” added Mhlongo.
