The Genesis Hub based in Louwville recently started its very own chess club.
On Saturday 10 September, the first introductory practice session was held at the hub. Despite it being a rainy day, the weather did not stop the community from joining the first session.
Andre Lewaks, one of the coaches, mentioned that with the large number of participants the Genesis Chess Club is currently the biggest club in the West Coast Region. Lewaks also said he was surprised by the number of top players who joined the first session. He also added that the whole purpose of the chess club is not just for playing chess, but also a holistic development of the youth. The Genesis Hub hopes that through a club experience the youth will also sees chess as an escape from certain circumstances that can potentially affect their mental well-being.
