The West Coast kickboxers who were part of the national team included Zane Esau, coach Baine Ocks, Deanné Pienaar, Skeigh-Lee Jenecker, sensei Theresa Pienaar and Meguel Ocks.

Students of the Vredenburg Kickboxing Dojo represented South Africa at the WAKO Junior World Kickboxing Championship in Italy, where the South African team placed 34th.

Team members, having qualified for their national protea colours, were based at the coastal resort of Jesolo, near Venice, from 30 September to 9 October, and were among 2 870 athletes from 63 countries competing.

Regarding their 34th-overall placement, Vredenberg dojo sensei Theresa Pienaar said: “We would like to thank every coach, parent and supporter of the team for enabling them to take part in this prestigious event. Indications already are that next year is going to be another great year for kickboxing.

“We value any financial support our students receive to help them to attend more international events and develop their skills even more.”
