In celebration of International Day of Education on Tuesday 24 January, SiCasa Sports Lounge and Restaurant in Langebaan together with CKit Projects based in Saldanha gave back to the school community.
By donating much needed text books to Langebaan Primary School for the foundation phase classes and whiteboards for the classrooms, SiCasa Sports Lounge and Restaurant and CKit projects helped the learners in a big way.
Furthermore Gillian van Rooi who finished Grade 7 at Langebaan Primary School last year, was awarded for outstanding performance.
On the day guest speaker Dr Yul Derek Davids, Research Director at the Human Science and Research Council, addressed the learners on the importance of reading and developing themselves.
Michelle Davids from SiCasa Sports Lounge and Restaurant said many organisations contribute to feeding schemes and poverty alleviation initiatives to help prevent hunger. “This is admirable but not sustainable in the long run. What we need is to equip people with skills and expertise to provide for themselves rather than to depend on hand-outs. SiCasa Sports Lounge & Restaurant together with CKit Projects believe in contributing to education as an upliftment tool out of poverty and dependency,” she said.
Delendren Varatharajalu from CKit Projects said keeping with their company ethos of developing youth into young professionals, CKit Projects, together with Sicasa Sport Lounge and Restaurant, felt it fitting that the learners of Langebaan Primary School would greatly benefit from the merit bursary, educational reading books and classroom white boards that were sponsored.
