News of babies being abandoned or dumped is yet again making headlines nationally.

Locally, Weslander recently also reported on baby Sachin who was left abandoned next to a cricket field in Piketberg, metres from the local hospital.

Every time a baby is found dumped somewhere it begs the question, why did this mother not seek proper help? It is easy to judge the actions of the mother, but the truth is no one knows the circumstances that led to the unwanted pregnancy or whether something went wrong during labour due to a lack of medical care. However, carrying a baby to full term and then dumping him or her because one got scared is not the solution, and young woman need to be educated on the many options available to them to hand care of their baby over safely if they cannot provide for them.

The various clinics in our towns have ample options and advice for mothers who do not want their babies. There are plenty of families who will welcome your child into their lives and care for them.

Before you decide to take the easy way out, make sure to explore all your options that will give your baby the chance at life it so rightfully deserves.
