Weslander recently visited the West Coast Mystery Room in Saldanha and the Saldanha Bay Hotel as part of its team building project.

It was an unforgettable experience, one like no other.

The first guests to experience the hotel’s wine pairing, we were treated to five wines perfectly paired with five signature West Coast appetisers prepared by chef Eugene Johnson.

The appetisers included an oyster, pickled mussel, bokkom butter on home-made bread, smoked snoek samoosa as well as a piece of brie rolled in bokkom powder, all uniquely paired with a different wine to complement the taste and flavour.

Along with the wine pairing, a gin tasting option is also available to guests and the general public.

Nádi Truter, general manager of the Saldanha Bay Hotel, said the main reason for the new offers is to attract people to the spectacular view the hotel has to offer and also to offer something to the public that is a social experience.

“Nowadays people are not just looking for food or drinks, but an experience, and that is exactly what we want to offer,” she said.

Truter added that every wine and gin is unique in taste and flavour, and is presented with a bit of information about what the winemaker intended for you to experience.

Even if not a wine connoisseur or Masterchef one can rest assured one will leave feeling as one.

Truter said the hotel aims to keep the experience true to the West Coast, “so that when you sample the variety of seafood options while looking out over the bay, you should feel so much a part of the West Coast that you can understand the seabirds language.”

To keep things interesting the wines and gins will continue to change to ensure guests come back for more.

Prices are as follows: Wine tasting R95 per person.

Gin tasting is R115 per person and wine pairing R175 per person. This is on offer daily from 11:00 until closing time.

Before making your way to the Saldanha Bay Hotel for a relaxing afternoon, visit the West Coast Mystery Room and complete all the riddles and puzzles to ensure you escape the Mystery Room.

A fun experience to do with friends and family.
