Giving back to those in need, the Faculty of Military Science at Stellenbosch University (FMS) sponsored 232 packs of sanitary towels to the Mfesane Dignity and Youth Café programmes on Monday 27 November.
The project was initiated by Miss Elegance finalist Marnuchelle Badenhorst, who was joined by Miss Military Academy Rochelle Earl. The donation of the sanitary pads will be given to the much-deserved girls who are part of Mfesane and the Youth Café. Badenhorst said donating sanitary towels to young women is a long-standing tradition of female pageants.
“This action reminds young ladies that they are women of dignity, that they each have an identity, they belong, were born for a reason and are called for a purpose, and each has a destiny to fulfil in life,” she said.
Yolandi Afrika, CEO of Mfesane, said the donation was intended to restore and strengthen the dignity of these girls. “It will help them not to lose their confidence during their menstrual cycle. It will ensure they continue exercising their right to education and participation in sports.”
She added Mfesane was very grateful, since more girls could be reached and the donation made a huge difference to their limited resources. Since this was an ongoing programme anyone is welcome to donate.
