Whether it be stoftrappers, Weskus art or indigenous poetry, organisations involved in arts-and-culture development can now apply for funding.

The Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS) announced the opening of online applications for arts and culture funding support.

Funding is open to registered arts and culture organisations and institutions, artist groups, individuals involved in artistic expression and arts-and-culture events companies. Through this funding the department is committed to supporting the growth of arts and culture in the province and empowering talented artists in showcasing their skills.

The Western Cape Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport, Anroux Marais, said: “I am happy we can continue giving this support to our arts-and-culture organisations and individuals, despite the budget cuts we are facing. Arts-and-culture organisations and artists capture the heritage, essence and unique flavour of the Western Cape and South Africa.

“It is crucial that we continue to support this important sector, which contributes to the growth of our local economy, brings social cohesion and creates jobs for many people.”

Application forms and criteria to qualify for funding are available online on the department’s website www.westerncape.gov.za/gc-news/99/60483

Applications close on Friday 8 March at 16:00.
