Feeding around 1 000 residents in Laingville, the St Helena Bay Islamic Society once again made a difference in the lives of many through its Winter Warmth campaign, which took place on Saturday 9 March in the town. In partnership with the Mustadafin Foundation, it povided residents with a warm meal as well as food packs containing necessities for the pantry as well as warm blankets for winter. Hassan Sattar, secretary of the society, said the non-profit organisation was established 10 years ago and aimed to address challenges faced by the community. It aims to do so through various programmes and initiatives, such as a weekly soup kitchen, grocery hampers throughout the year and uplifting the youth. “We want to empower through skills training, education, youth and leadership programmes, involving all races and faiths.”
