Selflessness, a caring heart and a mission to give back are just a few qualities of a Miss Hope Journey International.

Presented by Acting Hope, a non-profit organisation, the Hope Journey International pageant will take place in November this year.

The West Coast’s very own Chané Harmse has been chosen as a participant. This pageant is not about glitz and glamour, but about one’s character, values and heart to make a difference. As part of showing her heart to make a difference she started walking a path with Ruth McPherson from Heavenly Haven Retreat, another non-profit organisation. It was announced at the launch of one of its initiatives named the “A Cinderella Story” project that Harmse would be the Miss Cinderella ambassador for 2024.

She said she had never been one for beauty pageants and was usually behind the scenes taking photos.

“But my love for Heavenly Haven Retreat has grown so much in the past year, with the ‘A Cinderella Story’ project I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to give my community and Heavenly Haven Retreat the platform it deserves. With the motivation of Anita Senekal (Ms Hope Elite International 2019) Harmse did not think twice about this opportunity.

She said there is nothing more important than sharing the initiative with as many people as possible. “Our West Coast is a small place with a big heart and our children deserve every opportunity that comes their way.”

For Harmse it is important to be a role-model for the young people of the West Coast, in a sense being an older sister to them. “I want to fill each child with love, advice and knowledge, and help them just as my parents helped me. “My parents always tried to give me the best, although it was not possible all the time. As I got older I realised I was very fortunate, but this is not the case for many children.”

Livia van As, coordinator of the “A Cinderella Story” project said having Harmse as its ambassador is an honour. She explained Harmse embodied the essence of Cinderella, showcasing resilience, kindness and the belief in the power of dreams.

“She not only brings the story to life, but also inspires others to find hope and courage on their own journeys. We are thrilled to have her represent Heavenly Haven Retreat and share our message of compassion and empowerment with the world.”

Van As adds that words cannot express how proud she is of Harmse and the fact that she will be representing Heavenly Haven Retreat and the “A Cinderella Story” project at the pageant. “Chané’s dedication, empathy and unwavering commitment to our mission make her the perfect ambassador for Heavenly Haven Retreat. Her journey is a testament to the transformative power of hope and perseverance, and we are honoured to have her as a symbol of our values on the global stage.”

Harmse is thankful for the opportunity and is excited for what is to come.
