Learners of Diazville High School signed a learner pledge to take a stance against substance abuse and violence.


Though most schools are safe, dangerous weapons and drugs can be easily accessed by people of all ages.

Diazville High School is one of the schools in the community of Saldanha that have been impacted by the effects of substance abuse and violence.

Therefore its learners decided to sign a learner pledge that commits all its young people, learners, to play an active role in preventing violence and drug use in schools. Such a pledge signifies a heightened pro-active awareness among the.

According to Paul Haricombe, principal of the school, the learner pledge is an initiative that provides a vehicle for starting a conversation with learners about violence and drug use. “As well as appropriate and inappropriate ways of resolving personal problems and disputes. It provides a wide range of awareness-building activities and learner leadership opportunities.”
