A supervisor at Sea Harvest died in a car accident on Sunday morning, when the driver of the vehicle she was travelling in lost control of it, and it overturned.
The accident occurred around 05:00 near the Yzervarkensrug industrial area next to the Saldanha Free Port and the harbour premises.
Yonela Nqaba (37) from Middelpos died on the scene when a blue Renault Kigar presumably rolled a few times.
Captain Tania Helfrich, spokeswoman for the West Coast Police, said the exact cause of the accident was still being investigated.
The driver of the car could not remember exactly what happened immediately after the accident, but his vehicle rolled on the MR559, the road between Saldanha and Langebaan.
Nqaba died of her injuries at the scene.
The Saldanha police were investigating a case of culpable homicide.
Cyril Wiese, a colleague of Ngqaba’s at Sea Harvest, said she was a friendly, spontaneous person who always was smiling.
“I can’t say that I ever saw her angry or something similar,” he said.
Sea Harvest did not want to say much except that the company was saddened to hear of the fatal accident and the loss of a much-valued employee.
