Returning for the third time, the West Coast Street Mile Series in Langebaan is back, the first leg starting on Saturday, 6 September at Seabreeze Hall.

This year, the series is being presented by the Langebaan Sports Development Foundation in association with the Langebaan Athletics Club.

Race Director Christopher Rodgers said the event is a great opportunity for West Coast locals to take part in their own area. It is also a great way to promote athletics within communities and the development of the youth.

According to Rodgers, the previous Street Mile events were well supported by top-class athletes such as William Kaptein and Deon Lee Hendriks. “A new addition to the race is the U-7 and older than 80-year-old categories.

The second leg of the series will take place on Saturday, 13 September, and the final leg on Saturday, 27 September.

Prize money for the senior athletes amounts to R10 000 for both male and female winners, and prizes for schools with the most entries amount to R4 000.

Race entries:

• Juniors 7-18 years old – R50

• Seniors and masters – R70

• 70+/80+ – free entry. All entries are payable on the day of the event.
